My fondest memory of growing up on a rice farm in the northern part of Thailand is the sweet smell of steaming jasmine sticky rice at 4am in the morning from our kitchen and having it as breakfast, lunch, dinner and even dessert!!
My Mom always asked me to help cut vegetables, make chili paste, and do everything with her from cooking to cleaning for many years since I was just a kid. Little did I know, I would come to learn how to cook almost every dish in Thai cuisine. I now realize that was the most precious gift of my life from my Mom.
When I came to DC many years ago, I met with my chef and said to her that one day we would open a restaurant together. In october 2003, 'rice' opened it's doors to serve fine Thai cuisine.
I have collaborated with our 2 chefs, Phannarai Promprasert and Big Sriyuthana to create a menu that offers both traditional and contemporary Thai cusine in a very simple setting with minimal decor in the Logan Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC.
We hope you enjoy our food and have a great experience at 'rice'.
Thank you,
